Dharma Raj Pantha, MSc

Dharma is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Subject Matter Expert (SME), and approved NCDWI provider. Dharma specializes in individual and group counseling for adults, adolescents, and family therapy. Dharma strives to provide each client with his/her own individual treatment, utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing with a strength-based emphasis.

Shreedhar Paudel, MD, MPH

Shreedhar is a public health advocate, a psychiatrist, and a specialization in community psychiatry and schizophrenia. He is currently working at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. His interest in global health and global mental health is revealed by his strong leadership in establishing Health Foundation Nepal and Nepal Institute of Mental Health.

Shital Subedi, MA, LLB

Shital is an advocate, notary public translator, Development professional serving various NGOs, INGOs, bi-lateral and multilateral organizations for the last 25 years in Nepal. Extensive experience in governance, compliance management, government liaison, and organization management.

Sushrusha Arjyal, MD

Sushrusha is a Psychiatrist and a Sleep specialist. Her research interest includes insomnia and sleep in pregnancy. For Sushrusha, joining NIMH has been a very fulfilling experience as it has allowed her to give back to my country and contribute to the mental health and well-being of people in Nepal. There is a dire need for mental health professionals in Nepal and it is her honor to be a part of such a wonderful and dedicated team.

Lajina Ghimire, MSc, RN

Lajina has done her bachelor's in science in nursing and also master's in clinical psychology from Nepal. She was working as a registered nurse in Monmouth medical center, New Jersey. She has 5 years of experience in the field of research in Nepal with different organizations such as TPO Nepal, CIVICT, NAFA/PSD, HIPRON, and has also worked as a consultant in ILO during the time of the earthquake. She also has worked as an assistant lecturer in Holy Vision Technical Campus. Her area of interest is adolescent mental health and research.

Ranjan Thapa, MD

Ranjan is working as a psychiatrist in Biratnagar since 2006. He has given guest lectures in different CMEs. His area of interest is Suicide Prevention. He has published a book named" Suicide Prevention: A guide for clinicians." He has provided suicide prevention training to doctors, nurses, and allied health workers. He has published articles on topics like Conversion Disorders, Relationship between Social media and depression, COVID-19 and Mental health, and COVID-19 and Suicide. He wants to increase access to mental health in Nepal.

Binita Adhikari, MSPH, RN

Binita is a public health professional from a nursing background. Her key interests are in institutional strengthening of public health organizations, public health training, and mental health. She has been involved in health systems strengthening practice and research in Nepal, India, Liberia, Zambia, and Kenya. Binita is currently working as a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Jagan Subedi, MD

Born and raised in Nepal, Jagan developed a deep interest in psychiatry during medical school while participating in community health camps. He likes to understand the person as a whole. He is trained in MD psychiatry both in Nepal and in the USA and is currently working as an attending psychiatrist in North Carolina, USA. He is involved in NIMH from the beginning and deeply believes in its core beliefs and missions. His experiences and interests include mental health issues, substance use, educational activities, community mental health, stigma reduction, and advocacy for mental health.

Prabhat Sapkota, MD

Prabhat completed his MBBS from BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan in the year 2015. After MBBS, he worked at Bharosha Hospital, New Baneshwor for a year and then went to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (India) in 2016 (July). He completed his MD ( Psychiatry) in the year 2019 (June).



Suraj Shakya, M. Phil., PhD

After completing MPhil in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University (Nepal) in 2012, Suraj started working in the same institute as an assistant professor and clinical psychologist. His Ph.D. research was on the development and validation of tools for assessing emotional and behavioral problems for Nepalese children. He practices cognitive behavior therapy in Kathmandu and serves clients online too. He holds Int'l Diplomate status as a certified therapist at the Academy of Cognitive & Behavioral Therapies (ACT) - the USA since 2020.

Pramesh Man Pradhan, M. Phil.

Pramesh has completed M.Phil. from Maharajgunj Medical Campus, IOM. After graduation, he have been working in Department as a consultant providing Psychotherapy to the patients in OPD, supervising M.Phil. residents in OPD and inpatients assisting in Psychological Assessment and Psychotherapy, Motivation Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and DBT. Besides, he was involved in translating Remote Psychological First Aid. He is also involved in giving training to psychosocial counselors. He was involved in providing Stress management for people in distress (COVID-19) last year.

Chhori Laxmi Maharjan, PsyD

Chhori has been passionately working in the field of mental health services in Nepal since 2004. She is currently leading a counseling program at Nepal Youth Foundation. She provides individual and group counseling/therapy services to children, youth, and families. She is trained in Sandplay Therapy, Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance, and Commitment Therapy.



Vinita Sharma, MPH, Ph.D.

Vinita is a public health scientist interested in the intersections of mental health, HIV, and substance use, particularly among marginalized sub-groups. She completed her Bachelors in Public Health (BPH) from Nobel College, Pokhara University, Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of South Florida. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Florida. She received Nepal Bidhyabhushan Padak, ‘Ga’, Nepal Chhatra Padak, and the Vice-Chancellor Medal (Pokhara University).

Madhur Basnet, MD

Born and raised in a village in Nepal, Dr. Madhur did his MBBS and MD (Psychiatry) from B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Nepal. Currently, he's working as Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at BPKIHS. He firmly believes in social justice and equity and has been devoted to ensuring that for those with mental health issues as well. He has been deeply involved in raising mass awareness among the public through media and various platforms. He has keen interests in Global Mental Health, Community Psychiatry and Mindfulness based practices. Since his interests in psychiatry during the undergraduate training, he always dreamed of having a "Center of Excellence in Mental Health in Nepal" and firmly believes that NIMH-Nepal is a path to realizing that dream.

Anuradha Acharya, MSc

Anuradha, a mental health professional, who has experience of working with several national and international organizations to develop psychosocial programs and work directly with survivors of violence, sexual exploitation trafficking, helping recover from trauma and alternative rehabilitation for twelve years in Nepal. She received her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.



Bigya Shah, MD

Bigya is an Assistant Professor in Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Patan Hospital. Apart from being an academician and clinician, she is an active researcher. She has received prestigious NIDA-ISAM,2019, travel fellowship, World Psychiatric Association ECP Fellowship,2018, Honourable mention in International fellowship by Association of Women Psychiatrist, 2019 and American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), 2017 resident travel fellowship, to name a few. She is interested in addiction, Consultation Liaison, women’s mental health, and preventive psychiatry.

Bharati Devkota, MSc

Bharati is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in State of Maryland with more than 15 years of experience. She has done her Bachelor of Homeopathic medicine from India and did her M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from Institute of Medicine, Nepal. She has worked for 2 years in Community Mental Health program at CMC-Nepal. She completed her CAS in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University. She was awarded Diversity Achievement award 2019 by Maryland Counseling Association. She was honored by The Probono Counseling Organization for her enormous work in Maryland.



Saraswati Dhungana, MD

Saraswati is a psychiatrist passionate about mental health in general and adult/adolescent mental health in particular. She has been working currently as an assistant professor at the psychiatry department of the Institute of Medicine Kathmandu, Nepal. She is an academician, clinician, and researcher. She is involved in teaching undergraduate/postgraduate students, seeing psychiatry patients in her outpatient, doing rounds in inpatient wards, and also supervising many of the students for their thesis works. She graduated in Psychiatry from the Institute of Medicine in 2013. Currently, she is also a doctoral candidate at the University of Oslo. She is passionate about mental health since she feels it is the only branch of medicine which truly incorporates the holistic approach needed to treat patients providing immense satisfaction.


Shiva Raj Mishra, MPH, PhD

Shiva Raj Mishra is an epidemiologist and data scientist interested in the intersection of circulatory health, implementation research, and access to medicines. From 2015-16, he worked as a commissioner in The Lancet YCEMP, and as a freelance writer until 2018. He currently works as a Research Fellow in Epidemiology and Intervention Simulation Modeling at the University of Melbourne.

Sanjay Yadav, MD

Sanjay envisions a world where people suffering from mental illness are treated with dignity and their rights respected, allowing them to participate in their own decision-making and process of treatment and recovery. He is currently working as a consultation-liaison psychiatrist at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in the United States. He strongly associates with Global Health works and has a deep interest in mental health care of the population in low-resourced settings.
